Lust, Desire, & Love Trilogy - Character Interview (Nikki) and #Giveaway

Nikki Carrington Interview

(Giveaway at the end of the interview - thank Nikki for that)

Twisted By Desire (book 1), Jaded By Desire (book 2) in the Lust, Desire, and Love Trilogy
Reclaimed By Desire (book 3) is coming in November 2015

Desiree: Hi Nikki, it's nice to meet you. You look stunning.
Hi, Desiree. Thanks. It's nice to meet you, too.

Desiree: Thank you for taking time to talk with me.

Some of the readers aren't familiar with you, yet.  Can you tell everyone a little bit about you?

Yeah, sure. My name is Nikki Carrington and I'm thirty years old. Well, I will be pretty soon anyway.

I've been married to my husband, Jeff Carrington, for less than a year - he's my second husband. We have a son together, now.  I also have a beautiful daughter, Abby, by my first husband.

I think I’m a pretty fun-loving, down-to-earth type of girl, overall (laughs).  I don't know, I think I'm pretty normal. I work full-time in marketing.

I enjoy hanging out with my friends.

Desiree:  Can you tell us a little about your friends?

Jackie is my best friend, I've known her the longest. She and I grew up together.  We had some issues in high school, but we're over that now. She’s really a great friend.

Mandy is another one of my really good friends.  We met in college and got really (throws up the air quotes) close.

And of course I have my friends from work - Candace and Georgia. I hang out with others from work, too, but I wouldn’t say there were necessarily friends, friends. Candace and Georgia are definitely friends.

Desiree:  Tell me a little about your life before you met Jeff?

Before I met Jeff, hmm, well, I was married to Skylar. I thought he was the one I’d be with for the rest of my life, honestly. But, unfortunately, some things, we just couldn’t get on the same page about.  We do have a beautiful daughter though, so I’m really happy for that. And Sky is an amazing father, too.

We divorced after being married for six years, which was difficult for both of us.  We both still loved each other, and were so physically attracted to each other.

I dated (there go the air quotes again) occasionally between my divorce with Sky and meeting Jeff.

Desiree:  I hope you don’t mind me asking about your love life, but I’m dying to know some information and the readers might want to know, too.

I’ve read quite a bit about you and was a little confused about your dating life after the divorce.  Can you help me understand?

I wasn’t looking for a relationship during that time. I did date, but I use that term loosely.

I tried to fill the void of not having a man in my life. I love sex and a lot of these ‘dates’ ended up being sexual encounters. Some I regretted. Like the time I slept with my co-worker. I knew better, and it was amazing, but we’re co-workers. I knew to go any further with him could end up being a bad situation if or when we broke up.

Plus, I think my bond to Skylar was so strong at that time, still, it complicated things and clouded my judgment. Even though we were divorced, I couldn’t move on. No one compared to him, and I just couldn’t get past that.

Then I met Jeff.

Desiree: When you met Jeff that night in the restaurant, he seemed pretty standoffish. Why did you pursue him? Why not just walk away and forget about him?

That’s a really good question. (laughs) I’m not sure why, other than to say physically, I was very attracted to him.  There was a pull I couldn’t fight (shivers). Right from that day, he shook me to the core and I did things that I normally wouldn’t have. I was hooked before I even realized it.

Have you ever felt like that? Because it's hard to explain, and sometimes people don't get it. I know my mom and friends didn’t understand at all.

Desiree:  I get it, trust me.  I felt that way when I laid eyes on the man that is now my husband.

Some people may think you decided to pursue Jeff because he’s significantly more well off financially than Skylar. Is there any validity to that?

None at all.

So here’s the deal in a nutshell on Sky. I loved him, and begged him to get a job, and keep it. We had a family and bills, yet he wasn’t happy in any of his jobs and refused to stay employed.  That was so frustrating.  I felt bad for him that he wasn't happy in a job, but we had a child to think about. I needed him to step up, be more responsible, and help me – help our family.

Of course I made enough money that I could make sure everything was taken care of, and he knew that, but I just didn’t feel like there was a partnership. And that took a toll on our relationship.   Of course the sex was still hot, but that seemed to be all we had in common by the time I decided we needed to end our marriage.

I’ll admit, I was attracted to Jeff when I saw him. He was so hot in his black suit. The material was so tight around his muscular biceps. And his face, O M Gee! He is just freaking gorgeous to me. (her eyes close)

Desiree:  Nikki …

Sorry, the man just does things to me - gives me butterflies thinking about him still to this day.

So back to the question, I hadn’t even begun to uncover where he worked, what he did, or where he lived until our first real date.  That first date (sighs), wow!

I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with him or even have a long-term relationship with him at the time.  Honestly, after I saw where he lived compared to me, I thought he would have just lost my number.

I was so happy when he called me, and we went out again, and again. It wasn’t money, it was him.

Desiree:  You told Jeff you loved him pretty early on, but immediately seemed to regret letting the words come out of your mouth.

I did love Jeff, or I was pretty sure I did anyway. I didn’t mean to say it though. I didn’t want him to feel awkward and feel obligated to say it back, or even have to acknowledge something he may not have felt.

Desiree:  You weren’t faithful for the few months you were dating Jeff, until just after you became engaged, if memory serves me correctly.  What was going on in your mind at that time?

You just had to bring that up, didn't you?

Yeah, I admit, I should have stopped having sex with Skylar long before I did.  Some of it was fear of not having him anymore and jealousy of the other women he dated. It was like, how can I say this without sounding like a horrible bitch? I wanted to make sure he still desired me, that I could still have him – that he still loved me.  I guess, in a way, I was afraid he wouldn’t love me anymore like I still loved him.  That he’d fall in love with someone else and replace me.  And I was reluctant to give my heart to someone else because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings and replace him. I know, it’s weird.

Another part of it stemmed from a fear that Jeff wasn’t really into me. I felt like he was sending mixed signals. Hell, he didn’t even tell me he loved me until our wedding day. I had this crazy idea that he had a hidden life and that was why he was on the road so much. I tried so hard to convince myself that wasn’t true, but my mind kept going back to that insecure thought.

Sky had been there for me through the good and bad times of dating.  He was my security. The day I said no to Sky was the day I finally felt free, and I think I freed him, too. That was the day I committed to Jeff 100%.

So I’m a realist, if I was questioning Jeff, he probably was questioning me.  All I hope is that by the time we got married, anything he may have been doing, stopped.  If he cheated after we got married, that would be a big problem.

Desiree: Do you regret sleeping with Sky while dating Jeff?

Absolutely. But I can’t change it now. I wish I could.

Desiree: What's the status of your relationship with Jeff right now?

If I were to change my status on facebook, I'd change it to 'It's complicated.' (laughs) But seriously, I really need to hear his side of the story. I’m not looking forward to the talk.  Jeff isn’t always the easiest person to talk to, he kind of has a temper. But I know sometimes I have a way of pushing his buttons, too.

I love him so much, but I’m afraid that what he may tell me could be the equivalent to a stake being driven through my heart.

Desiree:  Looking in a crystal ball, where do you see the future of your relationship with Jeff?

I know Jeff and I will be bound together for life because of Alexander, but I don’t want that to be the only thing that connects us.

Desiree: I want to end on lighter note.  I know you have a lot going on in your life with Jeff and 2 small children, free time is hard to come by.

If you had a day with no responsibilities, no kids around, no work, and all you had to do was enjoy your free time, what would you do? How would you spend your day?

Wow, at first that sounded really good, but my mind instantly wanted to know where my babies would be. I think if they were with Jessica, I’d be able to relax a little more. My mom couldn’t watch them both for an entire 24 hours.

But I don’t think I want to be away from them all for a full day.

I’d be happy to get an hour or two to take a nap, maybe get a massage, then come back home to my family.

Desiree: Thank you for taking time away to talk with me.

You’re welcome. It’s been a pleasure.

Hey, before I go, how about you giveaway 3 copies of your ebook, Twisted By Desire? Today’s the 24th, so let people enter over the weekend, then pick the winners on Monday or Tuesday sometime. What do you think?

Twisted By Desire - More reviews

I shared some of the awesome 5-star reviews, now it's time to share some of the awesome 4-star reviews for my debut title.

on December 13, 2014
Wow! This was one hot read! What a fabulous debut by Desiree A. Cox that left me turning the last page wanting more! As the first book in a trilogy, this book set the stage for what looks to be one heck of a story about, well, as the series name says, lust, desire, and love.

So, you have Nikki and Sky who are divorced, and in addition to sharing custody of their little girl, they also share some hot times between the sheets even though they aren't married anymore. It's pretty clear these two still love each other, but their relationship was clearly one where love just wasn't enough, at least not for Nikki. Enter Jeff - the hot guy she meets at the bar. The guy who makes her body sing and can offer her the financial stability that was missing from her marriage. Oh, yeah, these two burn up the sheets, the lounge chair near the pool, the kitchen...well, you get the idea! But when things start to get serious, Nikki finds herself needing to make some decisions that will impact not just her life, but the lives of those around her.

I loved the pacing of this book - it moved very quickly and kept me engaged throughout. I loved the flashback scenes that were included, they really helped set the stage for certain events and gave a deeper insight into some of the characters and their relationships. There were twists and turn, lots of heat and steam, and had a storyline that grabs you from the first page. And did I mention how hot the book was?

Even though the book focused on Nikki and Jeff, I loved that we got to know so many of the people in Nikki's life. They really helped to add additional depth to the book and added another dimension to the story being told. From her work and personal friends, to her family, and Sky and their little girl, each character, no matter what small part they played, had an important part in the story and influencing Nikki's life.

This was a great start to this trilogy and, if you like a great story with lots of heat and steam, you don't want to miss this one!

This story jumps right in to Nikki's perception of her ex-husband, Sky. Even though she asked for the divorce, she can't take the leap and stop having incredible, mind-blowing love-making sessions with the man. Love was never the issue with their marriage; it was always the laziness. He didn't want to mature the way she thought that he would once they married each other and that was it. Abby was the only wonderful thing that they created together. With Sky always on her brain, she feels like she may have just walked out on her soul mate...then comes Jeff. Jeff rocks Nikki's world but has a lot of rules and neurotic tendencies. With only one golden rule implicated before dating, can Nikki and Jeff really fall in love with each other or is it just a huge mistake?

At first, it was really difficult for me to find an interest since the sex was a HUGE factor in Nikki's life. My lack of interest may be because I typically do not read Erotic Romance; however, I began to enjoy the story once the pace picked up towards the middle of the book. With the story starting to unfold with Nikki's new relationship with Jeff, I found that I just could not put it down! My favorite character in this one was Sky, the ex-husband. He seemed like he genuinely loved Niki and Abby to the fullest and always put their health and well-being before his own. I can definitely relate to the soul search and emotional twists that Nikki goes through in trying to find what she wants despite what family and friends question.

I recommend this story to those who enjoy reading Erotic Romance. I rate this with four stars since I did enjoy the moral of the story. I did feel like it was lacking something; however, the author is wonderfully talented and that shows in the writing style and detail that is placed into every scene written. I look forward to reading Jaded by Desire, the second in this series which picks up where this one concludes.

Twisted by Desire is a great debut novel. This is book one in the Lust, Desire, and Love Trilogy. This is definitely a very hot, steamy, panty-dripping read. The erotic scenes are written in such detail I felt I was right there watching.
This is a love triangle with Nikki, Sky, and Jeff. Nikki and Sky are divorced and share a daughter. They both love each other and feel they are soul mates and have an amazing sex life, but when they were married, love just wasn’t enough. Sky couldn’t keep a job and provide stability. Nikki meets Jeff and he can provide the stability she craves, needs. Sex with Jeff is just as off the charts as it is with Sky, but the all-consuming love isn’t there for Jeff and it is with Sky.
I have to admit, I am team Sky. He is the love her life, high school sweetheart, Abby’s father, and appears to be an all-around, sexy, hot good guy that just needs to grow up and get his sh*t together.
I do not care for Jeff! Yes, he is a sexy God who is loaded and can provide Nikki with anything her heart desires, but there is something there…I can’t put my finger on it, yet.
I’m sure Desiree has plenty in store for us in books two and three, especially after the cliffy that ended book one! I can’t wait to get started on book two!!

This writer was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Nikki is a woman who thought she knew what she wanted. She divorced her ex-husband Sky because he was unable to maintain employment. She saved up herself and purchased a home and is supporting herself and her daughter.

On paper, Jeff looks like the prefect mate. He is wealthy and sophisticated. He can care for her financial needs, and although she does not love him, she likes him, and the stability that he represents.

Although Nikki left him, she is still drawn to her ex-husband Sky. There passion has not been extinguished despite the divorce. Should Nikki return to him or try a new relationship with Jeff.

I had a really hard time with this book. I wanted to like Nikki, but her character was extremely unlikeable. Sky her ex-husband is there for her at every turn. She uses him, abuses him, and then causes him to lose a relationship after she divorced him. Then Nikki becomes involved with Jeff, but repeatedly states that she does not love him, and stays in the relationship when he mistreats her because he has money. I really felt for Sky in this book and wanted him to find happiness, but Nikki and Jeff were not likable and pretty much deserved each other.

I really hope that Sky finds happiness in the remaining books in the series. He seems like the most redeeming character and deserves much better than he has been dealt

***Received an ARC for an honest review by Bookalicious Babes Blog***

Desiree A. Cox's debut novel, Twisted by Desire, is a smokin' hot book! The main character, Nikki Carmichael, is in a lovely luscious love triangle with two super sexy, but very different men. Sky is her hot and young ex-husband, college sweetheart, and baby daddy. Jeff, is an older rich sex god who is used to getting what and who he wants. Nikki is sexy and she knows it... fearless when it comes to getting what and who she wants...so refreshing to read about a woman who is unashamed to admit she loves sex and expresses her desire.

Twisted by Desire is the perfect title as there is lots of desire in the form of sizzling sex and the twists in this story mirror a roller coaster ride... at warp speed...from the highest hills. This book is thrilling, intense, raw and hot.

As this story ends in quite a cliffhanger, I can't wait for more!

4.5 sexy stars!

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great debut novel by this author. It has all the emotional up and downs that I love in a book. The characters are well developed and the story flows nicely. The plot keeps you intrigued and turning the pages just to see what is going to happen. I have to applaud the author for a job well done.

Nikki and Sky are divorced but that doesn't mean they don't still love each other. She is thrown for a loop when she meets Jeff and really doesn't know what to do. Her heart still belongs to Sky and she's not the only one confused. What will happen, I recommend you read this to find out. It's an amazing read.

Twisted By Desire - Reviews part 1

Every author likes getting reviews.  I read and appreciate all of the reviews I've gotten.  Some are awesome, some are not the most favorable.  But there's a takeaway from each and every review I have.  It's because of the reviews that I know where I may need to make changes for future successes.

Below are a few of the 5-star awesome reviews I've received for Twisted By Desire, my debut title that release December 2014.  Thank you everyone who took the time to read and review my work.

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Get ready for a ride with this one because you will not even be able to tell that this fabulous book is actually a debut! I was immediately caught into the novel and refused to let go until the very end. Yes it is part of trilogy but it is well worth the wait. By the end of the book all I had to say is talk about a Love triangle! Trust me love triangles when done right in my opinion can make a book and the author did just that. The flow of the story is impeccable and you can even tell whenever Nikki is having that inter turbulence going on because she doesn’t know who to choose. Nikki realized that she had to make a decision when it came to her marriage and even though there is a child involved she did what was best. However, trust me that doesn’t stop these two from still going into old habits of falling into the bed together. Sky, he is hot young and her ex-husband, yes there are still feelings but he obviously wasn’t ready to take that next step in life. Now, she met Jeff, good lord, he definitely knows what her body wants and is exactly what she needs. Only thing is as I said before her inter turbulence is preventing her from choosing one over the other. You get taken to a whole new high with this one because you’re given more than just a love story. As the name of the book says, you will see twists, there is definitely plenty of desire and trust me there is an abundance of lust when you fall into this story. However, can Nikki make the right choice that is the question and you will just have to read this amazing debut novel to see how it unfolds! This author has definitely brought you on the brink of a book hangover with just this one book and trust me you can wait a short few weeks for the other one as the story continues.

Let me start by saying, I began reading this book on Christmas night, and I finished it 3 days later. As soon as I opened it, I didn't want to close it until I was done.

Nikki is torn between what her head wants and what her heart wants. She's not only dealing with the daily struggle of a job, nosey boss, family, and friends, but also juggling an ex-husband, a new fiancé, and to top it all off, a toddler. We've heard plenty of the "money can't buy happiness" clichés, but we also know love doesn't pay the bills either. How many times can her ex-husband, Sky, say he'll change and go back to doing the same old thing? But, be careful what you wish for. Although her new fiancé, Jeff, has all the money in the world, all that wealth can't fill the void in her heart.

One of the reasons I love this book is because I can't even decide who I would choose. Reading all of Nikki's inner turmoils, every other chapter I switch between #TeamSky and #TeamJeff. Not to mention all of the steamy scenes that are as close to watching the real thing as it gets. After the cliff I was left hanging on, I can't believe I have to wait another couple months to read what happens next!
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read. You won't be disappointed!

Let me just tell you this book is HOT!!! what a fabulous debut novel from this author. I don't think that February can get here soon enough to read the next one in this trilogy. Recently divorced Nikki working adn trying to provide a good stable home for her daughter finds herself still lusting after her ex husband Sky. Let's just say they do more than just exchange parenting time. One night while out with her friends she notices a hunk of a man who she ends up persuading named Jeff. He is the hunk of all hunks and wealthy to boot. things seem to start moving fast for Nikki and her daughter with Jeff in their life now, but is this really what she wants? Can Nikki really give her heart away again or will she follow her heart back to her one true love? So many hot scenes in this book. It is totally worth the read and like I said I can't wait to read the next one.

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review! My honest review is I loved this book, it deserves way more than 5 stars, the characters are complex and the story itself is riveting and fast paced. It's well written and a joy to read, its also a hot hot hot read, very sexy. Some characters I loved some not so much lol but I think the author has a plan. Awesome please read, I think you'll love it.

Twisted By Desire - Description revamped!

Book 1 in the Lust, Desire, and Love Trilogy
Heat Level - Scorching!

This book contains explicit sex, language, and sexual situations. It is written for the mature reading audience (18+) and isn’t suitable or intended for younger readers or readers who are uncomfortable reading about this content.

Sky, Nikki’s ex-husband, has a hold on her heart.

Jeff occupies her thoughts.

Sky can provide Nikki unconditional love.

Jeff can offer her everything she thought she wanted.

Nikki is so confused! Her head’s telling her one thing, while her heart is sending another message.

But Nikki isn’t the only one who’s twisted by desire.

I used to believe in fairy tale romances where a princess was swept off her feet by a prince, they got married, and lived their happily ever after. Great story.

After my six-year marriage ended up in divorce court, I wasn’t sure what to believe in anymore, but I knew that fairy tale shit was for the birds. And whoever came up with the saying ‘all you need is love’ didn’t realize utility and cellphone companies won’t take an ‘I love you’ for payment.

I planned to be smarter the second time around, if there was even going to be a second time.

I had no clear idea how to go about dating again; I had been out of the game for over six years. Times had changed, situations had changed. I wasn’t in college anymore, where the men were easily accessible. Hell, I didn’t even know what I was looking for in a man. To make things more difficult, I still loved my ex, Skylar. I held a special place in my heart for him and still craved his touch. Every single man I talked to or looked at ended up being compared to him, and then crossed off the list for one reason or another before they were even given a real chance.

After my divorce, I spent a few months moping around, looking like someone had stolen my puppy. My mom and friends were quick to dish out plenty of ‘why don’t you try’ advice about getting onto an on-line dating website. Even if I did, which site would I sign up for? There’s like a bazillion of them to choose from. I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about some of them, too. Yeah, that’s just what I wanted in my life.

I couldn’t bring myself to create a profile and have random, creepy single men looking for a quick hook-up or married men looking to cheat messaging me. Plus, the thought of meeting someone sight unseen didn’t appeal to me one bit. Sure, we could exchange pictures, but what if I met him and instead of him being tall, dark, and handsome like the picture he sent me, he was short, pale, and Quasimodo hideous? It would be just my luck to get cat-fished, stalked, or worse. What if the guy was a serial killer? I’m not trying to end up on Investigation Discovery like on those dating gone wrong stories.

So I chose to ignore them and stick with what I do best, I took the safe route. Friday nights after work, I had a standing date with my co-workers. Candace, Georgia, Robert, Carla, and Tristan made up the regular group. Happy hour at the restaurant/bar down the street from our office had become my weekly opportunity to get out of the house for socialization, while trying to find someone worth dating.

I liked the bar scene; it was easy, and I was in control. I could flirt without commitment. If they were interested and I was interested, we could talk or whatever. There was always someone that sparked at least a smidgen of interest and they normally showed plenty of interest back. But the night I met Jeff was different.
